Traditional Chinese Medicine recommends
acupuncture and the use of natural herbs as healing remedies. Cupping is a
lesser-known treatment that is also part of Oriental medicine, one that can
provide an especially pleasant experience. One of the earliest documentations
of cupping can be found in the work titled A Handbook of Prescriptions for Emergencies,
which was written by a Taoist herbalist by the name of Ge Hong and which dates
all the way back to 300AD.
Description
This class will begin with an anatomical overview of the sciatic nerve and associated structures along with pathophysiological effects of sciatic syndrome. Moreover, participants will be exposed to a unique view of musculoskeletal imbalances of the hip and lower extremities and precise assessment procedures.
The second portion of this class will cover integrative approaches to treatment such as the incorporation of oriental therapy and the clinical application of massage techniques to assist on the correction of postural deviations by restoring balance, decreasing muscular discomfort, and enhancing patient’s range-of-motion.

Essential Cupping is a non-invasive bodywork blending Oriental Cupping techniques and essential oil application to balance the body’s energy or Qi by promoting the feeling of well-being. The recommended essential oils were chosen based on their therapeutic benefits and suction cups are applied on specific acupoints to assist the body’s self-healing ability to restore or maintain homeostatic levels or balance.

Naturopathic Degree, Acupuncture certificate from China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, a Master Degree in Psychology from California Coast University, and currently finishing a PhD. in Acupuncture at Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine.

Melissa Carrico received her Associate degree in Occupational Therapy from College of DuPage and her second Associate Degree in Management and Marketing from Kankakee Community College.
